Today I heard it was Blue Monday – supposedly the saddest day of the year – which occurs on the third Monday in January.
I suppose one of the challenges of this day, alongside the persistent cold and darkness of the winter, is the end of festivities with a long way to go before summer kicks in. It’s also a few weeks post New Year – when many of us write those resolutions, which we may have ditched! (Though, see my other blog post for tips on how to keep them!)
A BBC News article suggests Blue Monday is a ‘load of rubbish”. The news clip quotes Dr Philip Clarke highlighting there is a lack of scientific evidence to support Blue Monday. However, on the plus side, having a national conversation about ways to improve our mental health can only be a good thing, right?
One of the ways we can start to feel better about ourselves and our life is by gently increasing our activity. Not just exercise, but getting some of goals in life achieved.
Start small. Get some quick wins.
Think about your to-do list and generate some easy wins.
Don’t start with the hard goals. Think small and aim big.
This helps create a context of achievement in which you can look to your harder goals.
Today I managed to finally book my sight test. It’s not until March (must be a pandemic backlog at the optician!) but I can finally get that checked off my list!
I’d love to hear what some of your quick wins are. Post below!
